Media Journey

From a young age, Nana Aba Anamoah was made to fall in love with reading while at home. Anytime she celebrated her birthday, her father bought her books to read instead of a birthday cake. Also, at Alsyd Academy, where she had her primary and junior high, the students were made to love reading, and there were days for current affairs.

Aba Anamoah decided that she wanted to become a media personality when she was in Class Three (3). She loved watching GBC’s Mrs. Barbara Gaisie anytime she presented news on TV and saw herself becoming like her.

Nana’s media journey began in High School when she started reading news on Monday mornings during her school’s Assembly. Her references for news were Radio Ghana and newspapers like the Ghanaian Times. In her second year in high school, she brought up the idea of forming a news and current affairs club, which became a reality. The club was called the ‘Campus News Agency. ‘

After completing high school, she saw a GBC advertisement that they were searching for presenters and took the opportunity to go and search for Barbara Gaisie. But unfortunately, she couldn’t meet her because she had traveled out of the country.

However, outside the GBC Premises, she met Mr. Charlie Sam, who was in charge of radio at the time at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, and after a few interactions, he told her to join the GBC training school, which she did. Later, Nana was employed at the GBC and started working as a radio presenter, although she wanted to be on TV just like Barbara Gaisie.

Aba was on the radio for almost a year at the GBC before becoming a continuity announcer on TV. She still was looking forward to becoming a news anchor at the GBC, but that didn’t happen because she saw an advertisement on TV that TV3 Ghana was looking for news presenters and decided to give it a shot. After her audition, she landed the job and started appearing on News Brief on TV3 Ghana.

She also worked as a news writer and reporter and hosted TV programs like the Diva Show. After more than a decade of working with Media General’s TV3 Network, she resigned in 2015 following the station suspending her over-edited photos that suggested she was at Old Trafford, but she wasn’t. The same year, she joined GHOne TV and began to host the State of Affairs, a political show on TV.

She went ahead to host other programs and later became the General manager for GhOne TV, Agoo TV, and Starr FM. She is still with the EIB Network Group in Ghana and currently the director of Business Development for EIB Network. She is also the host of a Kids TV Program dubbed “Actual Bosses With Nana Aba.”
