History of André Ayew

Dede Ayew was born in Seclin, France, on December 17, 1989. He grew up a bit in Ghana and started his football career at a young age in Ghana with Nania FC, a football club where his father, Abedi Pele, is the club chairman. At age 15, André went back to France, where he was born, and he got signed to Marseille Academy before a promotion to the senior side at the age of 17 years old.

Club Career

André Ayew Olympique de Marseille

Olympique de Marseille (2007/8 Season)

André Ayew made his professional debut for Olympique de Marseille on August 15, 2007. He played his first match for the club against Valenciennes, which saw his team suffer a 2-1 defeat. He played in the next game against Porto on October 24, 2007, which ended in a 1-1 draw, and on November 6, 2007, he made his UEFA Champions League debut against Porto, and they suffered a 2-1 defeat. But after the game, Ayew was praised by the media for his exceptional performance which put up.

He played in another match for his team, Marseille, against Lyon, and at the close of the season, he made 13 appearances for his club, 2 for the Champions League, 2 in cup play, and 9 in league play. His performance at Marseille drew attention from Arsenal, and according to reports, they wanted to sign the Ghanaian winger for 6 million Euros, but Dede’s club, Marseille, rejected the offer.

FC Lorient (Loan, 2008/9 Season) 

After the 2007/2008 season at Olympique de Marseille, André went on a loan to FC Lorient for the 2008/2009 season. He joined the club on August 11, 2008, and made his debut in their Ligue 1 match against Lyon on August 17, 2008. André, who was on the Bench, came into the game in 61′. He replaced Michael Ciani, and the game ended in a 0-0 draw. On September 27, 2008, Dede, in his number 8 jersey, played in the match against Sochaux and scored his first professional goal for his club, Lorient, in the 38′, and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. He scored his second goal for Lorient in a match against St. Etienne on October 29, 2008, which ended in a 4-1 victory. Ayew scored his goal in the 89′, and at the end of the 2008/9 Season, the winger had three goals. He returned to Olympique de Marseille on June 30, 2009.

Arles-Avignon (Loan, 2009/10 Season)

Again, André went on a loan but at a different club, Arles-Avignon. He joined the club on August 31, 2009, for the 2009/2010 French Ligue 1 Season. He wore the number 10 Jersey at the club and made his debut against Angers SCO on September 11, 2009. The game ended in a 1-1 draw at the Parc des Sports (Avignon). The following week, on September 18, in their match against Tours, André Ayew scored his first goal for Arles-Avignon in the 42′, and the game ended in a 4-2 Victory. Dede played in all the games for Arles for the 2009/10 season and scored four (4) goals at the end. After the season, he returned to Marseille.

Return to Olympique de Marseille

Ayew returned to Marseille in June 2010 and participated in the 2010/11 Ligue matches at Marseille. On August 5, he extended his contract to three years, which kept him at the club until June 2014. Dede Ayew played in different competitions for Marseille and scored over 40 goals before joining Swansea City in 2015 on a free transfer.

Swansea City (2015-2016)

In 2015, Dede Ayew signed a three-year contract with his new club, Swansea City A.F.C. He scored his first goal for the club in his debut match against Chelsea on August 8, 2015. He scored in the 29′, and the game ended in a 2-2 draw. On August 15, André scored his second goal in their 2-0 win against Newcastle United. He played in subsequent matches, and he scored and created an assist. In August 2015, he was named the Premier League Player of the Month and also received Swansea’s monthly award, the GWFX Player of the Month Award for August. He scored more than 10 goals at Swansea before moving to West Ham United in 2016.

West Ham United (2016-2018)

André signed for West Ham United on a three-year contract in August 2016. He played his first match for West Ham United against Chelsea on August 15, 2016. He suffered an injury during the game but returned on October 26 to play in their 2-1 home win against Chelsea in the EFL Cup. On December 26, Ayew scored his first goal in their away match against his former club Swansea City. He scored in the 13′, and they won by 4-1. He left West Ham United in 2018 for his former Club, Swansea City A.F.C. However, he made 50 appearances for West Ham United and scored 12 goals.

Swansea City Return

André completed a deadline day to former club Swansea City A.F.C on January 31, 2018, until the end of the 2020/2021 Season.

Fenerbahçe (loan)

In 2018, Ayew joined Fenerbahçe on loan. He scored five goals for the club at the end of the 2018/2019 season and returned to Swansea to complete the 2019/2020 season.

2019-2020 Season (Swansea City)

On Tuesday, August 13, 2019, Dede Ayew played for Swansea City in their match against Northampton, and he scored two goals, the first in the 80′ and the second in 88′. They won by 2-1. He played other matches and became the deputy captain of the club in November 2019.

Al-Sadd SC 

On July 21, 2021, André signed with Al-Sadd, a football club in Qatar that his father Abedi played for many years ago. He signed a two-year contract with the club with an option for an additional year. Ayew won two Trophies with his Club, Al Sadd, in the 2021 and 2022 seasons; the first was the Emir of Qatar Cup in 2021 and the Qatar Stars League Trophy 2021/2022 Season, and he continued to work hard with his teammates to win more Trophies for the club.

Nottingham Forest

André joined the English Club, Nottingham Forest, on February 2, 2023, after terminating his contract with Al-Sadd, which was due in June 2023. Ayew made his debut for Nottingham Forest in their 1-0 win over Leeds United on Sunday, February 5, 2023, in the English Premier League. Ayew was released by Forest following their 2022-23 season.

Le Havre (Current Club) 

On November 11, 2023, André joined French Ligue 1 side Le Havre on a short-term deal. He played his first match for the club on Sunday, November 26, 2023, as a substitute in a game against Nantes, which ended in a 0-0 draw. He came into the game in the 65′ but was sent off in the 67′ after getting a red card. He has scored three (3) goals for Le Havre.

Ghana U-20

In 2009, Dede Ayew captained the Ghana U-20 to win the African Youth Championship and FIFA U-20 World Cup in the same year after he finally agreed to accept the offer to play for Ghana rather than France. He performed very well for the team and scored goals in almost all competitions.

In August 2007, Dede Ayew, after his exploits at the Ghana-U20, got a call-up to the senior team, the black stars, by the Ghana Coach, then Claude Le Roy.
