Bisa Kdei, real name Ronald Kwaku Dei Appiah, is a Ghanaian Highlife musician, record producer, and songwriter. Aside from anything that got to do with music, Bisa is a businessman and architect. He is the CEO of Black Legendary Music, a record label in Ghana. In 2022, he celebrated ten (10) years of professionally making music with a Bisa Kdei Live in London Concert at the Indigo in the O2 Arena on November 18.

Bisa Kdei was born in Accra, Ghana, on March 19, 1986. His parents are both Ghanaians, and he was raised in Accra. He is 37 years old and a native of Larteh in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Bisa has seven siblings, and he is the third child of eight children.

Career

Bisa Kdei had a passion for music when he was 14, and when he turned fifteen, he started writing songs. After SHS, he worked as an architect and did other work like repairing phones, sound engineering, and motion graphic design before he became a full-time musician.

Kdei’s father was a lover of Ghanaian highlife music, and he often played songs of Legendary highlife music at home, which made Bisa fall in love with the genre and then influenced his decision to make highlife music since he became an artiste. He was inspired by Legends like Nana Kwame Ampedu, Daddy Lumba, Dr. Paa Bobo, Nana Acheampong, and many more.

He started his career as a rapper. He formed a boys’ band named “BISA,” meaning Boys In Serious Action, with one Yoshua and Smoke. But after some time, the three members decided to embark on a solo project, which saw Bisa switch from Rap to singing, and through singing, he was discovered by a Ghanaian movie producer named Afra Marley.

Bisa started working with Afra Marley as a motion graphic designer and making soundtracks for Kumawood movies. He was introduced to other film producers in the movie industry, and one of the soundtracks he did for a film dubbed “Azonto Ghost” in 2012 brought him into the limelight. Following that, he did other soundtracks like Madanfo and Armageddon, which made him more popular.

In 2013, Bisa Kdei dropped his first album titled “Thanksgiving.” The album did very well on music streaming platforms, and subsequently, he released singles like Odo Carpenter, which became a hit song. In 2015, he came out with “Mansa,” a single off his second album, “Breakthrough.” The song became a jam and laid the foundation for the successful launch of the Breakthrough album. It was the same year that he founded his record label, Black Legendary Music.

After the second album, Bisa released “Life,” a song featuring Patoranking from Nigeria, and the song received massive airplay in Ghana and other African countries. He dropped two more singles, Apae and Feeling ft. Reekado Banks, also a Nigerian artiste, after his single with Patoranking. In 2018, Bisa dropped his third album titled “Highlife Konnect.” The album was aimed at connecting him to other African musicians and making Ghanaian highlife music known around the world.

Bisa Kdei has had a successful music career. He is well-known in other African countries aside from Ghana. He has collaborated with almost every known artistes in Ghana and some musicians in Nigeria. He self-produced most of his Collaborations, for instance, songs he has with Efya Nokturnal, Sarkodie, Obrafuor, and Becca. He has also written songs for some Ghanaian musicians, and 2022 was his tenth year in the music Industry. Bisa has numerous hit songs, and he has won several awards. He is one of the musicians in Ghana whose songs have been used as a soundtrack for a Hollywood movie. He did a remix of his ‘Asew’ song for the Christmas movie “Jingle Jangle,” released in 2020.
