Career
When Emelia Brobbey was young, she wanted to become a Journalist. However, when she got to primary 5, her class teacher used to train her in spoken words, and as a result, she started developing an interest in acting.
After senior high school, Emelia enrolled in a Teacher’s Training College, and after she completed, she began her career as a professional teacher. She was posted to teach at Obuasi JHS Complex, where she taught JHS 1-3 pupils Ghanaian language (Twi) and Agric Science.
While Emelia was teaching at Obuasi JHS Complex, she still had a passion for acting, and one day she met Nana Ama McBrown, Samuel Nyamekye (CEO of Miracle Films), and Daniel Adeleke, who had come for the funeral of the late Santo at Akyem Awiasa not very far from her hometown, Akyem Swedru.
Emelia Brobbey told Daniel Adeleke about wanting to act, and she was told to come to the Kumasi Cultural Centre. Days later, she went to Kumasi and did her first film auditions. Emelia landed a role after her auditions at the Cultural Centre in Kumasi in her first movie titled “Tribal War.” She played her role perfectly in this movie with the little coaching she got from director James Aboagye.
Emelia commenced her acting career in 2002, and her first movie was Tribal War, produced by Miracle Films Productions. After this movie, she featured in two other films, Etirimu o sum, and Odasani, produced by Miracle Films. And after other producers came on board and started working with her.
However, Emelia Brobbey was still teaching in Obuasi and coming from Obuasi to act in Kumasi. Along the line, this disrupted her teaching, so she had to forgo one career to pursue the other. Emelia Brobbey chose to go into full-time acting, and now she is one of the most celebrated actresses in Ghana.
She has starred in over 200 movies in Ghana and acted alongside stars like Agya Koo, Mercy Asiedu, Kyeiwaa, Lilwin, Bill Asamoah, and McBrown. Aside from starring in movies, Emelia has produced four films so far. She is also a television presenter with a talk show called Okukuseku on Adom TV. She is also the host of Emelia’s Hour on YouTube.
In addition, Brobbey is a musician and a brand influencer. She has five songs to her credit. In 2021, she was appointed as one of the ambassadors for the COVID-19 National Trust Fund.
