Early Life & Family
Fred Amugi was born on November 5, 1948, in Kaneshie, a suburb of Accra. He is a native of Ga-Mashie, located in the Greater Accra Region. Amugi’s dad worked with the Ministry of Works and Housing in Ghana. As a result, he lived in Kaneshie for some time and moved to Osu, Accra, and later to the Western, Central, and Ashanti Regions of Ghana. The actor’s parents gave birth to nine children, seven girls and two boys. He is the third born.

Fred Amugi is married and has two children. At first, he had three children, two boys and a girl, but sadly, he lost his only daughter to cancer. He got married in 1983, thus a few years after he commenced his movie career.

He finished his Form 5 at Nungua Senior High School and didn’t continue his education.
Career
Mr. Amugi started acting in his final year at Nungua Senior High School. It was his literature teacher who discovered his hidden talent and supported him. Others also helped him in his career, which has seen him become one of the favorite veteran actors in Ghana.

Professionally, Fred Amugi began his movie career in the 1970s after high school. Fred started with TV theatre and later landed his first film role in a movie dubbed “The Other Side.” Subsequently, he appeared in a series dubbed Opinto, which made him a famous actor. He has starred in many Ghanaian movies and TV series.
