Grace Asantewaa is a Ghanaian International Footballer. She is a former player of Ampem Darkoa Ladies F.C., a Women’s Club in Ghana, and a former player of Ghana’s Under 17 Women’s team, Black Maidens, and the Under 20 team, the Black Princesses. She plays for the Ghana Women’s National Team, the Black Queens, and plays her club football for FC Juárez Femenil (FC Juárez Women’s Team) in Mexico.
Asantewaa emerged as the Best player of the tournament after the finals of the Ghana FA Normalization Committee Women’s Special Competition in 2019, even though her team at that time, Ampem Darkoa Ladies, lost 3-2 to Hasaacas Ladies at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra. She won the Women’s Footballer Of the Year Award at the 2022 edition of the Ghana Football Awards. She is a Defensive Midfielder or Attacking Midfielder.

Early Life
Grace Asantewaa was born in her hometown, Atebubu, in the Bono East Region, on December 5, 2000. She lived in Atebubu and started schooling at Atebubu R.C till she was fourteen when she moved to Techiman, a city in the Bono East Region, where she joined Ampem Darkoa Ladies Football Club.

Football Career
Asantewaa started her football career during her days in Primary School at Atebubu R.C. She used to play football with guys in her locality and was also part of her school’s team. However, it was through one of the inter-school Regional Competitions in Sunyani that she got scouted by Ampem Darkoa Ladies F.C. She joined the club in 2014, and after some time, she got the opportunity to play in the Ghana Women’s Premier League in 2016.
Grace Asantewaa’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies made it through to the finals of the Ghana Women’s Premier League Competition in 2016, and in their final match against Hasaacas Ladies at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, She scored the winning goal for her club, crowning them as the winners of the Ghana Women’s League 2015/2016 Season. After the Women’s League, she got a call-up to the Ghana National U-17 Women’s team, the Black Maidens. She participated in the U-17 Qualifiers, which saw the Black Maidens qualify for the Women’s World Cup in Jordan in 2016.
The competition started on September 30, 2016, and ended on October 22, 2016. However, the Black Maidens of Ghana dropped out of the U-17 Women’s World Cup tournament in the Quarter Final Stage on October 13, 2016, after suffering a 2-1 defeat from Korea DPR. The Maidens scored four goals at the tournament, and Grace Acheampong was the top scorer for Ghana. She scored the first goal for Ghana in the match against the USA on October 4, 2016, in the 62′, and Sandra Owusu Ansah scored the second goal in the 82.’ Ghana won the game by 2-1.
The third goal for Ghana in the tournament was scored by Sandra Owusu Ansah in the 67′ in their match against Paraguay on October 8, 2016, which ended 1-0, and the fourth goal was scored by Gifty Acheampong in the Quarterfinal match defeat against Korea DPR in the 80′. When the Maidens returned to Ghana after their painful exit, Asantewaa joined her club, Ampem Darkoa Ladies F.C., as they prepared for the Women’s Super Cup in 2017. They won the Women’s Super Cup in 2017 after beating Police Ladies 2-0 in April 2017 in Kumasi.
In the same year, the Ampem Darkoa Ladies team emerged winners of the Ghana Women’s League 2017 Season after beating Lady Strikers 1-0 in the finals in October at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi. However, Asantewaa didn’t participate much in the competition. In August 2017, She was selected for the FIFA U-20 World Cup qualifying matches, which started in September 2017. She participated in the qualifiers for the Ghana U-20 female team, the Black Princesses, and they qualified for the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in France.
Before the commencement of the 2018 Women’s World Cup tournament on August 5, 2018, Grace participated in the Fresh Pak Women’s League in Ghana in April 2018. She scored a hat trick in their game against Ashtown and was adjourned the MVP, and scored two goals in their match against Supreme Ladies and a goal against Pearlpia Ladies FC for Ampem Darkoa Ladies.
At the FIFA U-20 World Cup tournament, She featured in the Black Princess’s first group A match against France on August 5, 2018, in which they lost 4-1, and their second game against the Netherlands team on August 8, 2018, in which they also lost 4-0. But in their third group A match against New Zealand on August 12, 2018, Ghana won 1-0, and Asantewaa participated in the game and was named Player of the Match. Unfortunately, the Black Princesses couldn’t make it past the group stage due to the points they accumulated during the group stage. Ruth Anima was the top scorer for Ghana in the Tournament. She scored the winning goal against New Zealand.
After the U-20 FIFA World Cup exit, Grace got a call-up to the female Senior National team, the Black Queens, and she played in the 2018 African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON), which commenced in November 2018. She came into the game in the 62′ in Ghana’s first group match against Algeria at the Accra Sports Stadium, which ended 1-0. Gladys Amfobea’s goal for the Black Queens separated the two sides. Asantewaa also played in the third group match against Cameroon, which ended in a 1-1 draw. She also played in the 2020 Tokyo Qualifiers game against Gabon, the 2019 WAFU Zone B Tournament for the Black Queens in Côte D’Ivoire, and the Turkish Women’s Cup in 2020, in which they emerged runner-up.
In 2019, Grace Asantewaa played 90 minutes in all 11 matches in the Ghana Football Association Normalization Committee Women’s Special Competition for Ampem Darkoa Ladies. At the finals against Hasaacas Ladies at the El-Wak Stadium, they lost by 3-2, but she was named the Best Player of the Tournament. Grace joined her first foreign club, the Spanish female club EDF Logroño in August 2019 on a one-year deal.
Asantewaa was named the MVP of the month in December 2019 for a successful first round in the Spanish Primera Iberdrola. In October 2020, Grace’s new club, Legroño, made it to the finals of the Copa De La Reina 2019/2020 but lost the Trophy to Barcelona Women. However, getting to almost a year at Logroño, her contract was renewed by the club for another year. She stayed with the EDF Logroño for two years, made 45 league match appearances, and scored 5 goals for Logroño.
On July 8, 2021, Asantewaa joined Real Betis Balompié Féminas, another Women’s club in Spain, on a two-year deal and scored seven (7) goals for Betis Féminas in the season and made 28 league match appearances. The same year, she played in the Ayisha Buhari Cup 2021 and the 2022 AWCOM Qualifiers for the Black Queens. Asantewaa has featured in other competitions for the Black Queens in 2023. She still plays for the Female National Team, the Black Queens.
On July 20, 2023, FC Juárez Femenil announced the signing of Grace Asantewaa on social media. She joined the Mexican women’s football club from the Spanish side, Real Betis Balompié Féminas. She made her debut for the club in a match against Atlas Femenil on July 30, 2023, as a substitute after replacing Silvia Elicerio in the 29th minute. Grace scored her first goal for FC Juárez Femenil on September 11, 2023, scoring the third goal in their 6-0 Home win against Club Necaxa.
On October 23, 2023, she netted the only goal for FC Juárez Femenil in their 1-0 Away win against Tijuana Club. She scored in the 61′.
