Johnnie Hughes is an experienced and award-winning Ghanaian broadcast journalist. He is also a Master of Ceremonies (MC) and radio/television presenter. He won the Best TV Morning Show Host of the Year at the RTP Awards in 2018 and 2019 in Ghana. Hughes currently works for Media General Limited in Ghana. He is the current host of Johnnie’s Bite, a television program on TV3, and Community Connect, a morning radio program on 3FM 92.7. He is a former co-host of the multiple award-winning TV morning show, New Day, on TV3.

Johnnie Hughes tv3 Biography

Johnnie Beresford Hughes was born and raised in Kaneshie, a suburb of Accra. He was born on September 5, 1986, to the late ADP Johnnie Beresford Babatunde Hughes Snr (RTD), a Former Head of Industries, Projects & Development – Ghana Prisons Service, and Madam Comfort. His father passed away on August 30, 2015, following a short illness. Johnnie has a junior brother called Heward Rutherford Hughes and other siblings.

Educational Background

He started schooling at Flori Creche at Kaneshie First Light in Accra and continued at St. Nicholas Preparatory School. He later enrolled at Kaneshie Anglican JHS, where he completed his junior high school education. Johnnie had his senior high education at the Holy Trinity Cathedral Senior High School (HOTCASS) in Accra Central, where he studied Science.

In Senior High School, he served as a Compound Prefect and SRC Vice President. He also participated in extracurricular activities in school. After completing high school, Johnnie enrolled in the Ghana Institute of Journalism. He is an alumna of GIJ and a graduate with honors from the British Council’s Master Class for producers and presenters for radio and television. He also holds certificates from the Institute of Commercial Management in the UK.

Johnnie is married to Regina Yaa Biamah (Mrs. Regina Yaa Hughes), a Ghanaian woman from the Bono Region of Ghana. The couple got married on July 7, 2018.

Media Journey

Johnnie Hughes is a former member of the Benverj International Band (BIB). He led this band to compete in the competition organized by TV3 Network Limited called Bands Alive, and they placed third. Hughes started his media journey in 2011 as a radio host of a morning show on Pravda Radio 93.5, now Vision One FM 93.5. In 2012, he became the host of the Good Life Game Show on Viasat One TV.

Beresford presented the Good Life Game Show on Viasat from 2012 to 2014 and then joined TV Africa, where he hosted the Rundown Show. Initially, he had been on the Rundown show on TV Africa as a pundit but later took over from Yaw Sakyi Afari following his exit from the media station. Johnnie hosted Rundown alongside Daybreak Africa, a morning show on TV Africa.

Subsequently, while working for TV Africa, Media General Limited had seen Johnnie’s good works and wanted him to be the host of a current affairs program on TV3. So, he started working for the two media houses, TV Africa and TV3 Ghana. However, after a few months, Jonnie resigned from TV Africa to focus on his job at TV3. But prior to working for Media General, He helped create a radio program dubbed “Ideal Home” for one of the radio stations belonging to Media General, thus 3FM.

Also, in 2015, when he officially joined Media General Limited, he continued to assist in creating programs like Community Connect, which he currently hosts. Since Hughes joined Media General Limited in 2015, he has co-hosted and hosted programs like the Ghana Most Beautiful Pagentary Show, The Election Command Centre, Hot Issues, and New Day on TV3. Also, on 3FM, he has hosted almost all radio programs except sports.

He is the current host of Johnnie’s Bite, a television program on TV3, and Community Connect, a morning radio program on 3FM 92.7. Aside from knowing Hughes to be a television and radio presenter, he has Mced several events in Ghana, including the Ghana Cocoa Awards in 2019.
