After going through the various stages of recruitment, the final destination for all successful applicants is the police training school, where they undergo mandatory six-month basic police training.
There are a number of these police training schools in specific regions in Ghana, and the schools are not only meant for recruits but also for existing officers in the service who are undertaking refresher courses and other training.

The National Police Training School (NPTS) in Tesano, a suburb of the Greater Accra Region, is the oldest police training school in Ghana. The training school was set up in 1930. It is the most popular among the police training schools in the country.
