Nana Ama McBrown was born in Kumasi on August 15, 1977. Her mother, Madam Cecilia Agyenim Boateng, hails from Kwadaso, a town in the Ashanti Region, and her father, Kwabena Nkrumah, is from Akyem Asuom in the Eastern Region. McBrown’s parents gave birth to seven children, so she has six other siblings.
Unfortunately for McBrown, her parents divorced when she was a young girl. The beautiful actress and her siblings had their mum taking care of them, but at some point, she had to travel, so Nana Ama and her six siblings went to live with her grandma and aunty Madam Betty Obiri Yeboah.
McBrown grew up in Kwadaso along with her six siblings. They lived with their aunt and grandmother in Kwadaso. Nana Ama considers her Aunty Betty, who is late now, her “real mother” and has spoken of her gratitude to her for having provided a stable and caring home.

Nana Ama McBrown has been a footballer and a hawker before. She used to travel to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, with her aunty to buy dresses and bring them to Ghana to sell. However, years after hawking clothes with her siblings in the Ashanti Region, Nana Ama McBrown wanted to pursue an acting career. One day, she heard the late Ghanaian actor Kwame Owusu Ansah speak on FOX FM about a Miracle film movie audition. After the program, she called the late actor, Ansah, who visited her later at her home in Kumasi, asked her about what she wanted, and then directed her to where the audition was happening.
McBrown then went to the miracle film audition, hoping to get the chance to act, but on that day, she became a costumier, which she did for some time. She had the opportunity to play a movie role when director Samuel Nyamekye, the owner of Miracle Films Productions, wanted someone to drive a gang in a movie titled “That Day.” McBrown was willing to do that, which saw her do well in her role. That paved the way for her acting career.
After Nana Ama McBrown’s performance in “That Day,” a movie starring Fred Amugi, the late Santo, and others, she landed a role in the television series Tentacles. She later starred in the Kumawood movie “Asoreba,” and since then, she has appeared in many Ghanaian films and worked with other directors apart from Nyamekye.
