Okyeame Kwame was born in Ashtown, Kumasi, on April 17, 1976, to Madam Alice Nsiah Apau and the late Mr. Akwasi Nsiah Bota. He grew up in Fante New Town in Kumasi. He has four brothers and one sister and is the third child of his parents. Kwame is 47 years old and a native of Nsuta-Bimma in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

He has five siblings, four brothers and one sister. Educational Background
Okyeame went to Anglican Senior High School, Kumasi, after which he did his sixth form at SDA, Kumasi. He proceeded to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where he studied Akan and Sociology for his first Degree with formal education in music under the teaching of Dr Daniel Amponsah.
Dr Daniel Amponsah taught Kwame Classical Guitar and Philosophy in African Music. Later, he enrolled at the University of Ghana and graduated in 2016 with a master’s degree in Strategic Marketing. He is also an associate co-opted member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana in recognition of his professional use of marketing in creative arts.

Music Journey
Okyeame Kwame had always dreamt of becoming a musician, but his parents, Alice Nsiah Apau and Akwasi Nsiah Bota expected him to become a physician. He started rapping in his teens, and a friend named Laud Marcus taught him how to rap. He used to rap during entertainment nights at Anglican Senior High School, and some of his raps were written by his rap teacher, Marcus.
Kwame was also involved in rap competitions in Kumasi, and at the time, he was known by the stage name “Whiz Kid.”. In 1992, he teamed up with his longtime friend Daniel Quophi Amoateng, aka Okyeame Quophi, who used to write lyrics for him to rap back in the day at Secondary School and had grown up with in the same hood, and they formed a group called “WizDan.”
In 1995, Okyeame Quophi and Okyeame Kwame got a producer named Andrew Opoku Amankwah, owner of Spider Web Records, and in 1996, they had a manager, Mark Okraku Mantey. In 1997, with their collective effort, the duo rebranded to “Akyeame” and started working on their first album, “Nyansapɔ.”
From 1998 to 2000, Akyeame released three albums, Nyansapɔ, Nkonson Konson, and Ntoasoɔ (Continuation). The group had popular songs such as Me San Aba, Bra Yen Tina, Kenkeba, Ye No Saa, Brebre, and Sankofa. In 1999, they won the Artist of the Year and Hiplife Song of the Year awards at the first edition of the Ghana Music Awards.
In 2000, Quophi and Kwame traveled to the United States and planned to never return to Ghana. They were in the United States for three years, and we’re doing separate jobs. However, in 2002, the group dropped their fourth album, “Apam Foforo.” In 2003, members of the group began a solo project, and that’s when the group “Akyeame” was no more.
Okyeame Kwame, embarking on his solo project after returning from the States, released two albums from 2003-2009 and did a lot of music features. In 2007, he established his music record label called “One Mic Entertainment.” He released his first solo album, “Bohye Ba,” in 2004 and his second, “Manwensem,” in 2008, which earned him five awards, including the Artiste of the Year award at the 2009 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
Kwame has five albums now and has songs with musicians like Daddy Lumba, Ofori Amponsah, Bertha, KiDi, Kuami Eugene, and many more. He has won several awards as a musician, a songwriter, a creative director, a climate change activist, a Tourism Ambassador, and a Reading Ambassador.
