Media Journey
While growing up, Portia Solomon Gabor wanted to become a doctor because her mother was a nurse. But later, living with her mum in Awutu Bontrase in the Central Region of Ghana, she developed an interest in becoming a presenter. She used to listen to Kwaku Sakyi Addo host ‘Focus on Africa,’ a radio program, and how he delivered every time influenced her decision to become a presenter.
Portia started practicing how to read news on her own after high school. When she completed the African University College of Communications (A.U.C.C), where she earned a Diploma in Communication, the 2021 GJA Journalist of the Year did her National Service at the Ministry of Information, and during her free periods, she read news to her colleagues for fun while they recorded her.
A few weeks before the end of her National Service, Portia saw an advertisement that TV3 Network Limited was looking for a presenter. Her colleagues told her to apply, which she did, and then got the job after her service. Gabor did her first Television presentation on September 27, 2007, and has since been with TV3 Network Limited. She is currently one of the news anchors for News 360 on TV3.
