Yaa Asantewaa Rawlings Biography

Yaa Asantewaa Rawlings is one of the children of Jerry John Rawlings, Ghana’s Former President, and his wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.

Yaa Asantewaa is their second child, named after the brave female Ashanti warrior Yaa Asantewaa I, who was also the Queen mother of Ejisuman. She was born and raised in Accra, Ghana.

Asantewaa shares the same birth month as her junior sister Amina. She was born on March 2, and Amina Rawlings was born on March 1. Yaa was brought up by her parents, together with her three siblings, Kimathi, Amina, and Dr. Zenator Rawlings.

She is a native of Dzelukpe-Keta in the Volta Region of Ghana. She started schooling at Achimota Primary School and then proceeded to North Ridge Lyceum JHS to finish her junior high school education. After obtaining her BECE certificate, she moved on to Wesley Girls’ SHS, which she completed in 1999.

In September 1999, Yaa Asantewaa flew from Ghana to Ireland to have her tertiary education at Trinity Dublin College. She graduated from this University in Dublin, Ireland, in the year 2003 with a BA in Social Studies.

From there, Asantewaa continued to Boston University in the United States for her Master’s Degree programme and graduated after four years of enrolling in the institution with an M.A in International Communication and International Relations.

Yaa Asantewaa Rawlings is now working at the office of her father Flt. Lt. (Rtd) Jerry John Rawlings. She works as the Business Affairs Executive.
