According to Matthew Huari, at a young age, he wanted to become a rapper, and he used to freestyle with his friends in the middle of the woods during his early days as a Summer camp counselor. He got his stage name in a line in one of his freestyles, where he said, “Pulling through smooth, you can call me Yung Gravy,” so his friends started calling him Yung Gravy.

Yung started his rap career in college and was doing it for fun, but after he got inspired by rappers like Lil Yachty and Lil Peep, he decided to take his music career seriously. In 2016, he quit his work as a delivery driver for a pharmacy to focus more on music. Matt spent a month self-recording his songs and uploading them on SoundCloud. He caught the attention of music lovers after dropping a single titled “Karen” and was overwhelmed with the positive feedback he received from them. He was pushed to do more.

On September 8, 2016, Yung Gravy released his debut EP, “Mr. Clean.” The four-track external play has songs like Mr. Clean, Patrice, Uzi on a Monday, and Splash Freestyle. He gained popularity with Mr. Clean, and three months later, he dropped his first mixtape dubbed “Thanksgiving’s Eve.” In 2017, he released his second EP, “Yung Gravity,” and the same year, he dropped “Baby Gravy” with his friend Bbno$. He also released the music video for his Mr. Clean song. The music video went viral and had many views on the internet. By the end of 2017, Yung Gravy embarked on his first tour in the United States.
