Jackie Appiah was born in Toronto, Canada, on December 5, 1983, to Kwabena Appiah and Janet Owusu. She spent her early childhood in Toronto, Canada, and moved to Ghana with her mum at age 10. She is a native of Ejisu Abankro in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Jackie is the last child among five children. She is 40 years old.

Career

Jackie Appiah always thought she would become a Lawyer because she comes from a family of Lawyers. Her late uncle, thus her father’s brother, who goes by the name Joe Appiah, was a well-known Lawyer in Kumasi, the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

She developed a passion for acting at a young age in Canada while watching Barney, a popular kids’ program on TV. Jackie one day said to her mother that she would want to feature in Barney, and her mum made an effort to get her daughter to audition and join the show, but things didn’t work out because the auditions took place in New York, United States and they lived in Canada.

Appiah started acting by participating in drama in school in Canada. When she moved to Ghana with her mum, she joined a drama group called “The Representatives” at the Christian Action Faith Ministry, where she worshipped with her mother. She used to go to various senior high schools with the drama group to do plays, and they also performed for the congregation in Church.

Later, she participated in a talent competition at the National Theatre in Accra, Ghana, organized by Paa John Dadson. She acted during the talent competition and emerged as 1st runner-up. After the final event, Edward Seddoh Junior, the writer of the Ghanaian TV series “Things We Do For Love,” who was present at the finals of the talent competition went to see Jackie backstage and told her she did well and would like to feature her in a series which was the “Things We Do For Love” series.

Mr. Edward Seddoh Junior took Jackie to see the producer of the “Things We Do For Love” series, Ivan Quashigah, and he auditioned her, and she got to play the character “Enyonam Blagogee” in the series. Things We Do for Love is Jackie Appiah’s first television appearance, and after the series, she starred in her first film, “Divine Love,” produced by Venus Film Production in Ghana.

Jackie later starred in Ghanaian series like Tentacles, Sun-City, and Games People Play. She also featured in Ghanaian movies like Mummy’s Daughter, Passion of the Soul, and The Return of Beyoncé. Through her many successful Ghanaian films, she became known in Nigeria, and movie producers in Nigeria began starring her in Nollywood movies. Her notable Nollywood films include My Last Wedding, Bitter Blessing and Black Soul.
