Who is James Lutterodt?

James Edem Korbla Lutterodt is a former student of Keta Senior High School in the Volta Region of Ghana. He was one of the contestants who helped Ketasco reach the finals of the 2021 National Science and Maths Quiz Competition in Ghana. He was born on May 25, 2004, to Mr. Philip Dogbeda K. Lutterodt and Madam Lucy Tetteh in Keta, the Volta Region.

Lutterodt grew up in Bethlehem, a suburb of Tema in the Greater Accra Region, with his parents and siblings. He is a native of Vui, situated in Keta in the Volta Region. He met his untimely death on July 3, 2023, at age 19. He left behind six siblings, four brothers, and two sisters. He was the fifth child among seven children.

He had his primary and junior high school education at Newland Schools in Ashaiman, where his journey of Academic Excellence began. He sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) when he was still in JHS 2 and excelled after the results were released, which earned him admission into Keta Senior High Technical School.

At Keta SHTS, James Lutterodt did Science and continued to perform exceptionally well in school. In SHS 2, the deceased decided to challenge himself further by writing the NOV/DEC Examination, and he also excelled with his results and qualified for admission into the University. However, he decided to complete high school first before furthering his education at the University.

James developed an interest in contesting in the NSMQ in 2008 after watching a contest between Adisadel College, St. Peters Senior High School, and one other school when he was still in junior high school. He was selected to join the NSMQ team at Ketasco due to his outstanding academic performance in school. He represented his alma mater in the 2021 National Science and Maths Quiz Competition.

He made history with two others, Francisca Lamini, and Bright Senyo Gadzo, by taking Keta Senior High Technical School to the finals of the 2021 NSMQ competition. They competed with Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School and Prempeh College, and his School, Ketasco, came third. Following their remarkable performance at the NSMQ 2021, he enrolled in the University of Ghana, where he was studying Computer Science. He had dreams of becoming a computer scientist.

In the University, Lutterodt took the SAT Examination in 2021 and achieved outstanding results. In 2022, he retook the SAT Exams and earned a full scholarship to study at Howard University in the United States. But unfortunately, his dreams were cut short when he was still at Level 200 at the University of Ghana.

He was reported dead on July 3, 2023, following a brief illness which he was receiving treatment for at a specialist hospital in Tema. His pre-burial ceremony was held on September 8, 2023, at the Community Centre, Community 1 – Tema, and his burial and Thanksgiving Service took place at the Keta Senior High Technical School Park on September 9, 2023. He died at age nineteen (19).
